Overview:

The Essex County OPP Street Team is comprised of eleven (11) detective constables whose efforts are concentrated on street level enforcement of criminal offences, including but not limited to;

• Auto theft
• Commercial break and enter
• Mischief
• Possession and / or distribution of illegal substances
• Possession of stolen property
• Residential break and enter
• Theft

The Street Team satisfy their roles through lead investigation, assisting general duty contract officers, and relentless follow up of criteria crimes. Statistical analysis of geographic location and trend setting crime are compiled and disseminated to general law enforcement officers. These statistics assist in identifying suspects. Geographic locations of particular crimes provide up-to-date information for front line policing.

The Street Team is in constant contact with members of different law enforcement agencies. They use street level intelligence gathering and informants in their day-to-day police work. Select members are trained in stolen motor vehicle and specialty vehicle identifiers. Members provide support to front line officers in warrant writing, search warrant executions, seizure of property, processing accused individuals, court preparation and criminal prosecutions.
