The Essex OPP Street Crime Unit is comprised of four detective constables whose efforts are concentrated on property crime offences. These offences include but are not limited to;
• Residential break and enter
• Commercial break and enter
• Theft
• Possession of stolen property
• Mischief
• Auto theft

The Street Crime Unit satisfy their roles through lead investigation, assisting general duty contract officers, and relentless follow up of property crimes. Statistical analysis of geographic location and trend setting crime are compiled and disseminated to general law enforcement officers. These statistics assist in identifying suspects. Geographic locations of particular crimes, and provide up to date information for front line policing. The Street Crime Unit is in constant contact with members of different law enforcement agencies. They use street level intelligence gathering and informants in their day-to-day police work.
Members provide support to front line officers in warrant writing, search warrant executions, seizure of property and processing accused individuals. Criminal prosecutions and court preparation.
