Our Mission:
The Essex O.P.P. Youth Crimes Unit was developed to address the disturbing increase in school violence and youth crime trends within our high schools and O.P.P. communities. This unit is the criminal investigative liaison between the high schools in the Lakeshore and Tecumseh O.P.P. detachment areas. This specialized unit is comprised of two detective constables whose efforts concentrate on investigations involving criminal offences against persons and property, as they relate to youth.
These offences include;
• Property crime related offences
• Residential and Commercial Break and Enters
• Mischief
• Possession of Stolen Property
• Auto-Theft
• Assaults
• Sexual Assaults
• Drugs
• Weapons
• Missing Persons/Runaways
• Trespass to Property Act
• Liquor Licence Act
The Youth Crime Unit promote safety within the schools and communities by enhancing programs centred around risk management and through dedicated youth interaction. These detectives are a great resource for police officers and the public in relation to the Youth Criminal Justice Act Legislation, alternative/diversion methods, policies /procedures and youth court process.
Continued relationship building and information sharing between youth, police officers, and youth government agencies are important tools in the success of our youth crimes investigations.
